Artwork Description

This print is inspired by the beautifully decorated back aprons, known as opreg (pronounced oh-preg) or petec (pronounced pe-tech), from traditional Romanian attire. The original floral motifs were meticulously embroidered in golden thread, with delicate color accents on flowers like Forget-me-nots and Bluebells. This print celebrates that rich textile art, transforming it into a stunning piece for your wall.

A piece of lower garment, worn at the back, paired with a catrință (pronounced kah-treen-tza), which is a traditional apron, at the front. The opreg is composed of a petec, a patch/panel, and fringes. The petec is made of velvet, locally known as barșon (pronounced bar-shon), decorated with silk and metallic thread embroidery, featuring stylized floral and plant motifs of Byzantine influence (bouquets of lilac, vines, leaves, roses, cornflowers, violets). The fringes are made using a twisting technique, from silk and metallic thread. The patch is decorated all around with golden passementerie, in a color palette of: black, green, gold, blue, purple, brown, pink, yellow.

We use Hahnemühle Pearl 310gsm paper, which has a smooth texture and satin finish for incredible depth and vibrant color.
