Artwork Description

This fine art print features an intricate geometric pattern inspired by traditional Romanian front aprons, known as catrință. In regional folk attire, these aprons are worn over a white underdress, serving as a canvas for stunning floral or geometric embroidery. This piece captures the artistry and heritage of the women who would have both made and worn the original garment, adding a touch of cultural history and detailed craftsmanship to your home.

The artwork is based on a catrință (pronounced kah-treen-tza) or cotrânță (pronounced koh-truhn-tsah) from Sacu, Caraș-Severin county, dating back to the second quarter of the 20th century. The original piece is made from a single sheet of fabric decorated with woven patterns and embroidery in multicolored cotton and silk. It features geometric motifs—including rhombuses, the shepherd's hook, the little rake, and wolf's teeth—arranged in vertical columns. The garment design is framed by burgundy wool tassels and features a vibrant color palette of white, burgundy, purple, red, orange, gold, lilac, green, and blue.
