Artwork Description

This fine art print features a vibrant geometric motif inspired by a traditional Romanian headpiece from the mountainous region of Caransebes. Rendered with intricate fineliner detail, the artwork showcases a bold colour palette of red, purple, green, and blue. This piece offers a modern interpretation of cultural history, making it a striking addition to any art collection.

The artwork draws inspiration from a woman's cap - ceapsă (pronounced chyap-suh) from the early 20th century, worn by married women in Caraș-Severin county. The original head covering was crafted from black thread and embroidered with cotton in geometric patterns like rhombuses, ram's horns, and crosses, using a similar colour scheme. This historical context is provided by ethnologist and PhD candidate Alexandra Negrilă.
